Security Groups
The creation of Security Groups enables the Administrator to limit User access to certain Entities on a view and/or edit basis.
Each Security Group will have a User Role assigned to it. The User Role defines the access rights to be applied to that Group. The Role will take effect when the User has opened an Entity which has the Security Group assigned to it.
For example.
- If the User is assigned to Security Group 1, and an Entity is also assigned to Security Group 1, the User will have access to the Entity.
- The type of access they have to the Entity will be determined by the User Role assigned to the Security Group.
In the above scenario, the Security Group has a Standard User Role so the User will have Standard access rights to the Entity.
Entity specific Security can be configured, so that Users:
- Can view Entities but not update information;
- Can view Entities and are able to update information;
- Can view Entities but update only certain information;
- Cannot view or edit Entities.
For example, if there are Users in the UK and Users in the US, you might allow the UK Users full access to all UK Entities, but only viewing rights to the US Entities. Likewise, you can allow the US Users to view and update all the US Entities while giving them limited access to the UK companies, or even not allowing them to view UK Entities at all. The next few sections of this User Guide will demonstrate how this can be achieved using the above scenario as an example. It should be noted that Group Security is not limited to Jurisdictions and can be set for any Entity group type or even a single Entity.
