Entity types

Users of the Entities app can can record the following types of entities in the system:

  • Company A company that you own, manage, or are responsible for. You are responsible for making sure the information that authorities like the Companies House have for the company is correct and up to date.

  • Individual A natural person. An example might be a shareholder or an appointee.

  • Other Entity A third-party entity that is not administered in the system. An example might be a corporate director, corporate shareholder, trust, joint holder or branch office. You cannot appoint an entity to an other entity and an other entity cannot have its own share capital or shareholders. However, you can appoint an other entity to a company and an other entity can be a shareholder.

  • Committee A body of appointed individuals with delegated legal authority to carry out a specific function or purpose. Examples include audit committees, investment committees, oversight committees, or steering committees. Committees follow a constitution which sets out how they are to operate.

  • Partnership A business organisation type comprising two or more individuals who agree to share operational management and profit responsibilities. Partnerships typically consist of general and limited partners, designated and non-designated or management and non-management members.

  • Branches A record of additional business locations or offices in another jurisdiction.

  • Registrations in Jurisdiction These give a business rights to operate within a specific jurisdiction such as a state or region.
