Group structure
Use Group structure to view and analyze hierarchical ownership relationships. It displays parents, subsidiaries, and connections based on shareholding and corporate data.
Learn how to work with group structures in both classic and modernized Entities.
Group structure in classic Entities
Group structure in the Entities app enables users to view ownership information in a hierarchical format.
In Group structure, you can view parents or owners of an entity as well as its subsidiaries or child entities. You can filter the group structure based on meaningful criteria such as ownership percentage, country, division, and so on. You can view the group structure as a chart for better analysis and decision making as well as save it to other formats so you can share it with others. For more information about how you can view the group structure you in a chart format using Group Structure Visualization, refer to the Group Structure Visualization section of the Help Centre.
A company's group structure is automatically generated based on shareholder and shareholding information entered in Ownership, including corporate relationships where relevant. If corporate relationships are entered, they always take precedence over shareholding records. For more information refer to the Shares and Ownership section on the Help Centre.
Note
Since the group structure is generated and calculated based on data entered in Ownership, several elements and actions can define it, including entering incorrect or unknown dates for share transactions or undoing the share history incorrectly. Make sure the data you enter in Ownership is correct and up to date.
-
Structure On the Structure tab inside Group, you can select the type of group structure you want to run, select whether you want to run the structure for the companies above, below, or above and below of the selected company, and filter the group structure based on several criteria such as ownership percentage, country, division, and so on.
-
Tree Walker The Tree Walker page enables you to view the immediate parents and subsidiaries of the company and easily navigate through the group structure. To walk up or down the structure, select the name of the parent or subsidiary to reveal its immediate parents and subsidiaries.
-
Shares Held The Shares Heldpage shows the company's shareholdings in other companies.
-
Ultimate Parents The Ultimate Parentspage displays information about the company's ultimate parents. Unless specified otherwise, the ownership of a company's shares is used to determine the ultimate parent. A subsidiary company in the system may have up to two ultimate parents, depending on the level of share ownership in the company or on other means of control such as votes in the board.
A company's ultimate parent details are not updated automatically. If a change to a company's shareholdings or a change in corporate relationships would mean a change in the company's ultimate parents, use the Update Ultimate Parents wizard to update the ultimate parent information on this page. Refer to Update ultimate parents to learn how to do that.
Group in modernized Entities
In modernized Entities, access the Group page from any entity detail page, including individuals, companies, and partnerships. Generate a group structure from saved structures to reuse configuration options, such as structure type, date, percentages, and columns.
If no structure exists, the Welcome to group structure page appears. View your hierarchical structure table after creating a structure.
Choose an option to begin:
-
Structures Choose from predefined structures.
-
Create Build your own custom structure.
Structures
Use Group structure to define and analyze entity organization by governance, ownership, voting rights, or partnership. This tab displays relationships and percentages using tables and visualizations. The Group structure table appears after generation, with a title matching your selected structure. It displays the root company's hierarchy based on the saved configuration. The table displays all rows without pagination, preserving indentation and nested levels (expand and collapse).
If you do not have the required permissions, a no access page appears instead of the Group structure page.
Group structure includes the following options:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Columns |
It includes the columns defined in the saved structure, such as Name, Immediate %, Ultimate %, and Country. The default sort order is:
To resize columns, select the kebab menu on a column header and choose Autosize this column, Autosize all columns, or Reset columns. For more information, see Columns. |
| Edit |
After generating a group structure, you can update its settings and regenerate it at any time.
Note If you close the Edit panel without applying your changes, the system discards all modifications and the original structure is restored. |
| Visualization | Open the current structure in Group Structure Visualization (GSV) in classic Entities in a new browser tab. The Visualization button is only visible when a structure is displayed and you have the required permissions. |

| Create |
Every time you open the Create panel, default values are applied:
Change the configurations as required and select Create to save the changes. If you change configuration values and close the Create panel, reopening the panel resets all options to their default values. The Create panel displays a warning banner when some configurations are not yet available in modernized Entities and require classic Entities. |
| Export |
Export the currently displayed structure to a XLXS file. The export respects the current column visibility and order. While the export is processing, the Export button displays a loading indicator. A toast notification confirms success or reports an error. The Export action requires the Export Group Structure user role right. |
| Clickable entity names |
Entity names in the Name column are links that open the entity's detail page. The link is not available for the following entity types: Board, Branch, Committee, Incorporation, Registration in Jurisdiction, Trust Global. |
Create a structure
The Create panel opens with the same default configurations and fields as the Create option in the Structures feature. The structure defaults to Group Structure (Share Voting Rights & Corporate Relationships), displayed as Structure-below. The view is set to today, and the percentage type is based on the immediate parent percentage. Ownership filters remain blank.
You can update these settings before selecting Create. If you close the panel without saving, your changes are lost. Some configurations display a warning if they're only available in the classic experience.
