Google Address Search FAQs

What is Google Address Search?

Google Address Search assists users when entering address detail by suggesting potential matches and auto-populating relevant fields. The Google Address Search feature is an address suggestion tool, not an address verification service, that uses Google Maps data.

Are there any prerequisites for using Google Address Search?

  • To use Google Address Search, you must be on a Diligent Entities hosted platform.
  • An Administrator must review and accept Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to enable the feature.

How do I enable Google Address Search?

Only Administrators can enable the Google Address Search feature. If you are an Administrator, refer to Enable Google Address Search in Diligent Entities to enable the feature in your application.

Why can't I see the Address Search feature?

  • To use Google Address Search, you must be on a Diligent Entities hosted platform.
  • The feature is not enabled by default. Check with your Administrator to ensure that they have enabled the feature for use by accepting Google's Terms of Agreement (located in System Options).

How will Google use my data if I use the Address Search feature in Diligent Entities?

The only data sent to Google is the detail entered into the Address Search field, which is used to find an address. No other information is sent as part of the search.

For more information about how Google uses this search data, refer to Google's terms of usage:

Why does the Address Search want to track my location?

The Google Address Search feature is an address suggestion tool that uses Google Maps data, which in turn uses location data, to suggest potential matches and auto-populate fields in Diligent Entities.

For this reason, your browser will ask for your permission to track your location. You can either accept or decline this request.

Accepting the request this will cause Google Address Search to return addresses based on your current location, when conducting a search. Diligent Entities does not store this information.

Duplicate street names display in the address field, why is this?

Where address detail can be written in different ways (for example, North Road or North Rd), Google will return both versions. Diligent Entities will therefore display both versions. However, address detail returned can be edited.

If I have set the country and State/Region, why is the search returning addresses from across the country?

The Address Search feature will use the country filter to find addresses in the specified country, but it will not utilise the State/Region dropdown. This is filled in by the Address Search, but not used as a filter.
