Options for conditional formatting rules

Every conditional formatting rule you create is listed under Conditional Formatting on the Edit Panel.

The Conditional Formatting option holds two tabs: the Entities tab and the Relationships tab. On the Entities tab, you can add, change, copy and paste as well as remove rules that apply to the entity boxes in the chart. On the Relationships tab, you can add, change, copy and paste as well as remove rules that apply to the line connectors in the chart. To learn more about how to create such rules, refer to Create conditional formatting rules for entities and Create conditional formatting rules for relationships respectively.

Both tabs hold a list of the existing rules. Several options are available to manipulate the list of existing rules as well as each rule.

List Options

You can use the Reset option to remove any rules you added but haven't applied to the visualised group chart yet. With the Clear option, you can erase all rules from the list.

Note

If you clear all rules on the Relationships tab, that is, all rules applied to the relationship lines, all the lines display in black.

Rule Options

The pencil next to each rule enables you to open the rule for editing and change it.

With the up and down arrows, you can change the order of the rules. The rules are applied to the chart in the order they display, thus if you have, for example, two rules that define two different colours for entity boxes that meet certain conditions and an entity box meets the conditions for both rules, the colour defined in the first rule applies. For concrete examples, refer to Create conditional formatting rules for entities and Create conditional formatting rules for relationships respectively.

The Rules menu menu holds the following options:

  • Copy which copies the selected rule

  • Copy all which copies all the rules in the list

  • Paste above which pastes a copied rule or all copied rules above the selected rule

  • Paste below which pastes a copied rule or all copied rules below the selected rule

  • Remove which removes the selected rule

Note

The Paste above and Paste below options are disabled by default, they are only enabled once a rule has been copied.
