Create conditional formatting rules for entities

The Conditional Formatting option in Group Structure Visualisation enables you to apply different formatting to entity boxes based on conditions you define.

Conditional Formatting is available to clients with a Professional or Enterprise package. Contact your Customer Success Manager to learn more.

  1. Run a group structure and select Visualisation.

    Refer to Run a group structure to learn more about how to run a group structure.

  2. In the Edit Panel, select the Conditional Formatting conditional formatting tab.

  3. On the Entities tab inside the Conditional Formatting tab, select Add a rule and select an item from the list such as Country.

    When you select a condition, the Edit rule panel displays.

    Alternatively, use the LIST-TEXT switch at the bottom to open the Text Editor. With the Text Editor, you can quickly create rules and conditions by entering if-then statements. The Text Editor is useful when you want to copy and share the rules within your team. You can enter, update, or remove any rules and conditions in the Text Editor. When you're done, use the LIST-TEXT switch again to view the rule you just added in the list view: when you switch back to list view, the system validates the if-then statements you added and lets you know if it finds any errors in them.

  4. At the top of the Edit rule panel, enter a name for the rule.

    By default, the name of the first rule is Rule 1, for the second rule, it's Rule 2 and so on.

  5. Specify the details for the condition you selected.

  6. (Optional) To add another condition to the rule, select Add a condition and select an attribute, then provide the details for the condition.

    You can add multiple conditions to a rule. For example, select Company Type. Select the In list operator and select Public Limited Company. These selections mean that the rule applies to public limited companies.

    Tip

    Use Type to define conditional formatting for the different details you included in the group structure, such as branches, appointments, or registrations in jurisdiction.

  7. At the bottom of the Edit rule panel, define at least one of the five formatting options available.

    1. To change the shape of the entity boxes, select an option from the Symbol menu.
    2. To change the border style of the entity boxes, select an option from the Style menu.
    3. To apply a fill color to the entity box, select a color in Fill.
    4. To apply a border color to the entity box, select a color in Border.
    5. To apply a color to the text that displays in the entity box, select a color in Text color.

    Tip

    To access more color options, in the top-left corner of the color settings panel, select the color picker icon conditional formatting. From the color picker panel, you can either select a color and a shade using the palette, or enter a HEX or RGB value.

  8. (Optional) Once you have added at least two conditions, use the AND-OR switch at the bottom to define how the conditions relate to each other.

    By default, the switch is set to AND which means that the rule applies to entity boxes that meet all the conditions. If you want the rule to apply to any entity boxes that meet any of the conditions, switch to OR.

  9. When finished, select Save.

    The Save button is only enabled once the rule name is populated, all rule conditions are complete and at least one formatting option is specified.

    The rule you created displays on the Entities tab of the Conditional Formatting tab. If required, you can change, remove, reorder, and complete other actions on the rules in the list. Refer to Options for conditional formatting rules to learn more about the available options.

  10. To apply the rule you just created to the visualised group structure, select Apply.

    ​The chart updates according to the rule you just defined.

    If there are multiple rules in the list, the rules are applied to the visualised group structure chart in order in which they display in the list.

You can save the conditional formatting rules you create for later use for yourself and also share them with others. Refer to Save and Share Settings to learn more.

To share the chart with others on your team or print it out for a meeting, use the export option that best fits your needs. When you export the chart, any rules you added display in the chart legend provided that a legend is included in the export. Refer to the topics on how to create exports.
